Isa (Eee-sa) Beetar
Nicolas (Isa) A. Hoffman Beetar is a Lebanese-Colombian photographer & human rights advocate with a global perspective. Having lived in Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, and Guatemala, and earning two political science degrees in the DMV (College Park, MD & Washington D.C.), Isa’s lens often is fixed on urban landscapes, candid moments and black and white vignettes. This hobby turned into a passion and now a profession, reflected in the authenticity with which Nick tells stories through images. Now based in the Bay Area, Nick’s work features a blend of the architectural and artistic that can be found on foot around San Francisco.
In addition to Isa’s work as a photographer, they have also spent 11+ years working on issues of human rights advocacy by meeting with community leaders & Government officials to find solutions to the needs of various communities (primarily working with Muslim-American communities). These meetings ranged from educating communities are their legal rights, getting out to vote initiatives, intra community issues (e.g. the importance of giving opportunities to girls, young women, & women as a whole), setting up mentoring programs to raise the next generation of community leadership, and connecting community members to positions of power in Government institutions. Alongside their human rights work, they also advised Government officials foreign policy issues and trained Government officials in negotiations & conflict management best practices.
In the continued spirit of advocating for the human rights of people, Isa took this spirit and advised social media companies (Platforms worked on: Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, & Twitter) to counter hate speech & misinformation. No matter what they work on, human rights & dignity is at the core of said work.
